Met Build-Out

Our Met Build-Out program includes a multi-year plan to increase our base of higher-margin metallurgical coal products. The goal of this program is to increase metallurgical tons sold, as well as met being a higher percentage of our total sales. Our modular mine portfolio allows us the versatility to dial our met production up or down in a timely manner to reflect market conditions.

Legacy Roll-Off

Patriot will benefit as a large below-market legacy coal supply agreement for 3.5 million Illinois Basin tons expired at the end of 2011, and an additional 3 million Central Appalachian tons under legacy coal supply agreements are set to expire at the end of 2012.

Exports

Patriot has exported significant volumes of coal to Europe and South America for many years, particularly metallurgical coal. Patriot's thermal coal exports are expected to reach around 7 million tons in 2012, a level not seen in many years.

Experienced Management Team

Patriot's management team includes seasoned executives with extensive backgrounds in the coal industry. Rick Whiting, CEO, and Ben Hatfield, COO, each have more than 30 years experience in our industry, particularly in Central Appalachia.
