Patriot Coal Corporation's corporate office is located in St. Louis, Missouri, and include divisional offices in Charleston, West Virginia and Henderson, Kentucky.
APPALACHIA MINE SERVICES, LLC
Appalachia Mine Services, LLC is a service company based in southern West Virginia that provides engineering, environmental, finance, safety and training services to affiliates and subsidiaries of Patriot Coal Corporation.
APOGEE COAL COMPANY, LLC
Apogee is located in southern West Virginia between Logan and Man, and is sourced by one company-operated surface mine. Coal is produced using the truck-and-shovel/loader mining method. Certain employees are represented by the UMWA. Coal is mined from the Freeport, Kittanning, Stockton and Coalburg seams.
EASTERN ASSOCIATED COAL, LLC - BLACK OAK MINE / ROCKLICK PREPARATION PLANT
The Black Oak Mine is located in southern West Virginia. The coal is processed at the Rocklick Preparation Plant. Most employees at the company-owned and operated facilities are represented by the UMWA. Coal is produced from the No. 2 Gas seam.
EASTERN ASSOCIATED COAL, LLC - FEDERAL NO. 2 MINE
Eastern's Federal No. 2 Mine is located in northern West Virginia near Morgantown, and uses longwall and continuous mining methods. Most employees are represented by the UMWA. Coal is produced from the Pittsburgh seam.
EASTERN ASSOCIATED COAL, LLC - WELLS PREPARATION PLANT
The Wells Preparation Plant is located in southern West Virginia near Wharton and is sourced by one company-operated mine, Rivers Edge and multiple contractor-operated underground mines. Most employees at the company-owned and operated facility are represented by the UMWA.
HOBET MINING, LLC
Hobet is located in southern West Virginia near Danville and consists of two surface mines and a preparation/loadout facility. Truck-and-shovel/loader and dragline mining are used at the Hobet No. 21 Mine, and truck-and-shovel/loader mining is used at Hill Fork Surface Mine. Most employees are represented by the UMWA. Coal is mined from the Kittanning, Stockton and Coalburg seams.
MIDLAND TRAIL ENERGY LLC
Midland Trail Energy is located within minutes of Charleston, West Virginia. It consists of the Blue Creek and Campbell's Creek mining complexes and a preparation facility.
Blue Creek has one underground mine in the Stockton seam and uses continuous mining methods.
Campbell's Creek has two underground mines, one in the Winifrede seam and one in the Stockton seam. Campbell's Creek also utilizes continuous mining methods.
PINE RIDGE COAL COMPANY, LLC - BIG MOUNTAIN NO. 16 MINE
Pine Ridge operates the Big Mountain mining complex and is located in southern West Virginia near Racine. Big Mountain No. 16 is the primary operation. Coal is produced utilizing continuous mining methods. Most of the employees at the company-owned and operated facilities are represented by the UMWA. Coal is produced from the Coalburg and Dorothy seams.
REMINGTON LLC - WINCHESTER MINE
Remington's Winchester underground mine is located on Cabin Creek in southern West Virginia and utilizes continuous mining methods. Coal is produced from the Hernshaw seam.
RIVERS EDGE MINING, INC.
The Rivers Edge mine is located in southern West Virginia near Wharton. The Rivers Edge coal is processed at the Wells Preparation Plant. Coal is produced utilizing continuous mining methods. Most employees at the company-owned and operated facility are represented by the UMWA. Rivers Edge mine produces coal from the Powellton seam.
SPEED MINING LLC / COAL CLEAN LLC
The Panther mining complex is located on Cabin Creek, not far from Charleston. Panther utilizes the longwall and continuous mining methods. The coal is mined from the Eagle Seam and is sold primarily on the metallurgical market. Coal for the complex is processed by Coal Clean LLC.
DODGE HILL MINING COMPANY, LLC
The Dodge Hill mining complex is located in western Kentucky and is sourced by one company-operated mine, utilizing continuous mining methods. Coal is produced from the Kentucky No. 6 seam.
HERITAGE COAL COMPANY LLC
Heritage Coal Company - Camp 9 Prep Plant
Camp 9 Prep Plant, located in Uniontown, KY, processes coal from Highland Mine. The raw coal is transported to the facility via overland conveyors for processing. Most of the employees at Camp 9 are represented by the UMWA.
Heritage Coal Company - Camp Terminal
Camp Terminal is a loadout facility that ships coal from Highland Mine and is located on the Ohio River in Uniontown, KY. Most of the employees at Camp Terminal are represented by the UMWA.
HIGHLAND MINING COMPANY, LLC
Highland Mine is located in western Kentucky near Henderson and is sourced by one company-operated mine, Highland No. 9, utilizing continuous mining methods. Most employees are represented by the UMWA. Coal is produced from the Kentucky No. 9 seam.
OHIO COUNTY COAL COMPANY, LLC - FREEDOM MINE / GRAND EAGLE MINING, INC - PATRIOT SURFACE MINE AND GRAND EAGLE PREP PLANT
The Bluegrass mining complex is located in western Kentucky near Henderson and is sourced by two company-operated mines, Freedom and Patriot. Coal at Freedom is produced utilizing underground continuous mining methods, while coal at Patriot is produced utilizing the truck and-shovel surface mining method. Coal is produced from the Kentucky No. 9 seam.
